1st phase of Bradford City Centre heritage project completed

The completion of improvement works to Bradford city centre’s Pedestrian Zone means that new safety rules controlling vehicle movements have been put into operation.

Automatic bollards, which will control and enforce vehicle access to the area around Tyrrel Street, Bank Street, Hustlergate and Kirkgate, are due to begin operating on Monday, June 28.

Macs Automated Bollard Systems Limited have installed automatic bollards on Tyrrel Street at its junction with Bridge Street, Hustlergate at its junction with Market Street, at the top and bottom of Upper Millergate, at the top of Ivegate, on Kirkgate near McDonalds and on Kirkgate at its junction with Piccadilly.

The new Pedestrian Zone will make the city centre more attractive and much safer for shoppers.

After testing, the bollards will be operated by staff in the Council’s CCTV control room. Drivers will be expected to use the intercom system provided and observe the red and green traffic light system.

Vehicle access to the Pedestrian Zone will only allowed before 10.30am and after 4.30pm in accordance with the new Traffic Regulation Order.
